Addiction in Pallative Care

Microsoft Powerpoint
This project explored the interdisciplinary field of medical sociology, focusing on the sociological determinants of addiction in palliative care. Specifically, it examined opioid use in end-of-life care settings.
Palliative care aims to alleviate suffering and enhance the quality of life for terminally ill patients through pain management. However, the long-term administration of opioids, even in patients without a history of substance abuse, can result in unintended addiction.
The study emphasizes the need for equitable, holistic treatment strategies that mitigate the risks of addiction while maintaining the primary goal of relieving patient suffering.

Hypervisibility in the Workplace among Women of Color

Institutionalized Gendered Oppression(s)
Argues that race, gender, nor political party of choice should be used against black women in the form of institutionalized oppression. Prior gendered analytical studies have found a large percentage of wage-earning black women in North America are taking on various social roles in their communities and workspaces with little reward for their domestic labor. As a result, these women often become servants to the institutions to which they have devoted their lives.
Specifically, for gendered women who work in private sector institutions such as educational facilities or private governmental agencies. Black women in the United States over the age of 25, and who are full-time wage-earning employees during a fiscal calendar year. I hypothesize that black women are often victimized in private sector occupations as a direct response to institutional oppression.
Private Prisons in the United States Report

Ending For-Profit Prisons in the United States
The call to end for-profit incarceration reflects a growing awareness of how privatized prisons undermine public justice and amplify systemic inequality. In 2022, over 90,000 individuals—8% of the U.S. prison population—were held in private prisons, with corporations like CoreCivic and GEO Group profiting from incarceration.
Despite a federal executive order to phase out private facilities, states like Montana and Tennessee continue to rely heavily on them—highlighting regional disparities and the need for consistent policy change. My agency advocates for data-driven legal reform and transparent justice solutions that dismantle the prison industrial complex and restore ethical accountability.
